# Change the chat widget's text and languages

> You can reword every piece of text Aide Chat shows, and choose which languages it comes in.

You can reword every piece of text Aide Chat shows, and choose which languages it comes in. The widget picks a language for each shopper and formats dates, numbers and prices to match.

## Choose languages

In Aide Chat > Language:

* **Default language:** used for dates and numbers, and for the widget's text when the visitor's language isn't turned on.
* **Widget languages:** a switch for each language Aide ships: English, French and German. With more than one on, visitors can switch language from the widget's menu.

Workspaces that never chose their languages have French and German on, so a shopper browsing in either sees the widget in that language.

## Which language a shopper sees

1. The one they picked in the widget's menu (remembered across your site's pages).
2. The store's language: on a Shopify storefront, the language the shopper is browsing in; in checkout, the checkout's language.
3. Their browser's language.
4. Your default language.

A language that isn't on falls back to the default. The agent itself answers in whatever language the visitor writes in. Your team sees the widget's language in the conversation's details.

## Reword the text

"Text in the widget" lists every string, grouped by the screen it appears on: the home screen, menu, conversation, product and order cards, satisfaction survey, help articles and proactive messages. The current wording shows in each empty field. Type to replace it, leave a field empty to keep the default, or select "Reset all". With several languages on, there's a tab per language. The live preview shows your wording as you type.

Text can use the placeholders the default shows, such as `{agentName}`, `{name}` for a signed-in shopper's first name, or `{n}` in counts. Counts have a singular and a plural form.

## What you can't change

The lines that say the agent is an AI can't be edited: the AI disclosure line, the "AI agent" label next to its name, the "AI agent" line on proactive messages, and its answer when a shopper asks whether it's an AI. This keeps the disclosure accurate in every language.

In Shopify checkout, the home screen's greeting and subtitle always use Aide's default wording.
