# Write articles and organise collections

> You can write knowledge directly in Aide.

You can write knowledge directly in Aide. Aide answers from your published articles, and they show in the help section of Aide Chat.

## Write an article

1. Open **Knowledge** and choose **Write an article**.
2. Give it a title, such as "Return and exchange policy". You write the body next.
3. Write the body in the editor, with headings, lists and links, then choose **Save changes**.
4. Choose **Publish** when it's ready.

New articles start as drafts. Aide answers only from published articles, and only those show in Aide Chat. Choose **Unpublish** to take an article out of answers; save your changes before publishing or unpublishing.

Articles imported from your help center open read-only in Aide: edit them in your help center and choose **Re-sync** on the source.

Not sure what to write next? Knowledge > Gaps suggests new articles and corrections from the questions your team answers that your knowledge doesn't, and points out drafts that already answer them but aren't published. See [Find and fix gaps in your knowledge](/knowledge/knowledge-gaps).

## Collections

Collections group articles, like chapters of a help center. You can use them for articles you write in Aide and for an imported help center.

To create one, open the source and choose **New collection**. Give it a name, a description, and pick where it sits: at the **Top level** or inside another collection.

From a collection's menu you can:

* **Add articles…** to move several articles into it at once
* create a **New collection inside** it
* **Edit…** its name, description or parent
* **Delete** it

An article sits in one collection at a time; adding it to a collection moves it out of any other. Articles in no collection are listed under **Uncategorized**.

Deleting a collection keeps its articles: they and any collections inside it move up to its parent, or to **Uncategorized**. Aide keeps answering from them.

## Articles in Aide Chat

Published articles, written in Aide or imported from your help center, appear in the help section of Aide Chat, grouped by collection. Visitors can search, browse collections, read your most-read articles, and mark whether an article was helpful. You can also open an article from your own site with the widget's `article` command.
