When a shopper asks what goes with a product, Aide suggests complementary products as cards they can add to their cart. You decide which products it suggests. Aide never makes up a pairing.

Where pairings come from

Aide considers three kinds, in this order:
  1. Added by you: products you pick in Aide.
  2. From Search & Discovery: the complementary products you set in Shopify’s Search & Discovery app (Product recommendations). Aide picks them up when the product next syncs.
  3. Often bought together: learnt every night from your store’s orders of the past year. Two products count when they appear in the same order at least three times, and more often than chance would explain. Cancelled orders, removed items, gift cards and very large orders (more than 20 different products) don’t count. A new or small store may have none at first.
Your own picks are presented as your store’s suggestions. Products learnt from orders are presented as what other customers often buy with it.

Manage a product’s pairings

Open Knowledge, choose your products source, and open a product. The “Pairs well with” section lists every paired product once, in the order Aide considers them.
  • Add a product: search your catalogue. You can add up to 10 per product, from the same store.
  • Remove: only products you added. Search & Discovery and “Often bought together” suggestions can be hidden instead.
  • Hide: a hidden suggestion stays in the list marked “Hidden”, and Aide never suggests it. You can show it again at any time, and it stays hidden after the nightly update.

When shoppers see pairings

  • On a product page: “what else do I need?” or “what goes with it?” gets up to three products.
  • From the cart, on any page: “what goes with what’s in my cart?” gets up to three per cart item and six in all, skipping products already in the cart.
  • After an add to cart in chat: a compact “Pairs well with” row of up to three products appears under the cards. A single-variant product has a ”+ Add” button; one with options links to its product page.
  • When the shopper is about to buy: Aide may mention what pairs with it, but not in every reply.
Only products on sale in your store are suggested, and the row after an add to cart shows only products in stock. At checkout, Aide doesn’t suggest pairings on its own.
